Cisco ASR 1001 Router

The Cisco ASR 1001 Router is a new, small- footprint edge routing solution (1RU) that delivers up to 5-Gbps performance throughput with services turned on, enabling deployment agility in high-end enterprise branch, WAN edge, and managed services environments.

The Cisco ASR 1001 Router introduces the concept of integrated daughter cards (IDCs). Six models are available:

  • ASR1001: without an IDC
  • ASR1001-2XOC3POS: with an IDC that provides two OC-3 Packet-over-SONET/SDH (PoS) ports
  • ASR1001-4XT3: with an IDC that provides four T3 ports
  • ASR1001-4X1GE : with four 1-Gigabit Ethernet ports
  • ASR1001-HDD (160 GB): with a 160-GB hard disk drive
  • ASR1001-8XCHT1E1 : with eight channelized T1/E1 ports

The IDCs are not field-upgradable.

The Cisco ASR 1001 Router also supports software activation for some licenses, including the upgrade from 2.5-Gbps to 5-Gbps performance.

Cisco ASR 1013 Router

The Cisco ASR 1013 Router with the 40-Gbps embedded services processor (ESP) and 40-Gbps SPA interface processor (SIP) provides:

  • Twice the bandwidth and capacity of earlier Cisco ASR 1000 Series models
  • A modular and highly services-integrated routing platform
  • A highly scalable and cost-effective solution for the centralized 40-Gbps routing space

Cisco ASR 1013 Router

The Cisco ASR 1013 Router offers highly integrated services for enterprise and service provider networks. With 360 Gbps total system bandwidth and 4- to 23-mpps packet-forwarding capabilities, this powerful edge device delivers exceptional performance for its price range.

Cisco ASR 1006 Router

The Cisco ASR 1006 Router in a 6-rack unit (RU) form factor is the most flexible edge routing solution in the Cisco ASR 1000 Series. It supports:

  • Dual route processor
  • Embedded services processor
  • Up to 20 Gbps throughput
  • Up to 12 shared port adapters (SPAs), the highest port density solution of the three Cisco ASR 1000 Routers

Running on Cisco IOS XE Software, the Cisco ASR 1006 router supports hardware redundancy and in-service software upgrades (ISSU).


Cisco ASR 1004 Router

The Cisco ASR 1004 Router in a 4-rack unit (RU) form factor supports up to 8 shared port adapters (SPAs) and comes with one route processor and one embedded services processor slot. This provides flexibility for future upgrades, enhancing control plane and data plane scalability. The Cisco ASR 1004 Router provides up to 20 Gbps throughput support, making it a very cost-effective edge solution.

Running on Cisco IOS XE Software, the Cisco ASR 1004 router supports software redundancy without redundant hardware.

Enterprise routing solutions use the Cisco ASR 1004 as a:

  • High-performing edge solution for the private WAN
  • WAN aggregation or Internet gateway device

Service provider routing solutions use the Cisco ASR 1004:

  • As a broadband Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol (L2TP) access concentrator (LAC) or L2TP Network Server (LNS)
  • At the Layer 3 VPN (L3VPN) provider edge
  • At a high-end route reflector


Cisco ASR 1002 Fixed Router

The Cisco ASR 1002-Fixed Router comes in a 2-rack unit (RU) form factor with these integrated processors:

 

  • route processor (RP1)
  • integrated embedded services processor (ESP-2.5G)
  • integrated SPA interface processor (SIP10)

It houses one shared port adapter (SPA) slot that supports single-height SPAs. The ASR 1002-Fixed Router includes four built-in Gigabit Ethernet ports. It is an ideal solution for a large branch office, for WAN aggregation, or as a managed high-speed customer premises equipment (CPE) device to support enhanced features such as security, deep packet inspection, and firewall.

Cisco ASR 1002 Router

 

The Cisco ASR 1002 Router in a 2-rack unit (RU) form factor comes with an integrated route and serial interface processors. It houses three shared port adapter (SPA) slots supporting single height and dual height SPAs. Configurable with either the 5 Gbps or 10 Gbps embedded services processor and four built-in Gigabit Ethernet ports, it is an ideal solution for a large branch office or as a managed high-speed customer premises equipment (CPE) device to support enhanced features such as security, deep packet inspection, and firewall.

Running on Cisco IOS XE Software, the Cisco ASR 1002 router supports software redundancy without redundant hardware.

 

Cisco ASR 1001 Router

Get embedded services for enterprise and service provider networks in a small form factor of 1-rack unit (RU).

The Cisco ASR 1001 Router offers a default system bandwidth of 2.5 Gbps upgradable to 5 Gbps with a software-activated upgrade license. It houses one shared port adapter (SPA) slot that supports single-height SPAs. It includes four built-in Gb Ethernet ports. The first IOS XE software release supporting ASR 1001 is Cisco IOS XE 3.2.0S.

The Cisco ASR 1001 Router also introduces the concept of integrated daughter cards (IDCs). Six models of the Cisco ASR 1001 Router are currently available:

  • ASR1001: without an IDC

Software Activation

Software activation is supported on the ASR 1001 for some licenses. These licenses enforce consolidated packages such as the software feature sets for K9 and non-K9 IP Base, Advanced IP Services, and Advanced Enterprise Services, as well as the performance upgrade from 2.5 Gbps (default) to 5 Gbps.
